Answer: NLP was developed in the 1970's by mathematician, Dr. Richard Bandler and linguist, Dr. John Grinder. They studied the most effective therapist of the time, people like Milton H. Erickson, Virginia Satir and Fritz Perls, and began to form an explicit, teachable model for how these therapists were able to facilitate changes so rapidly with their clients. The specific patterns and techniques that they organized into this model became the foundation for NLP and the field has been expanding ever since. NLP, however, is more than just a few techniques modelled off these three therapists; NLP is the programming language of the human mind. By taking into account the subjective experience of each client: visual, auditory and kinesthetic representational systems, decision making filters (meta-programs), language patterns, deleted, distorted or generalized information, submodalities of subjective experience, eye accessing cues and a variety of other specific information, a therapist trained in NLP is able to make subtle changes to the internal subjective experience that will create greater options and freedom for the client.
Answer: EFT is a form of psychological acupressure that is based on the same subtle energy channels, or meridians, as traditional acupuncture has been using for over five thousand years to treat various physical and emotional ailments. The only difference is we don’t use needles. Instead, we stimulate the various acupressure points by tapping on them with two fingers while you are thinking about whatever it is that causes you discomfort. In simplest terms, EFT is a very effective relaxation technique that “collapses” the negative emotional response that is triggered by the memory, fear, phrase or belief. Because EFT deals directly with emotional causes, issues that would have taken months or years of traditional therapy are now resolved in minutes or hours.
Answer: Breathwork is an umbrella term for any type of conscious control of one's breathing for the purpose of entering into a more advantageous physical, mental or emotional state. The type of breathing processes that may be utilized are based upon yogic Pranayama, an ancient (and brilliant!) science of breath control that has been in practice for thousands of years. By utilizing specific kinds of breathing, a person is able to access states of physical invigoration, mental clarity, deep relaxation and peacefulness that may not be accessible otherwise.
Answer: Although they may have been used interchangeably in the past, these two words bear two very different meanings. Hypnosis is the state that people enter during the process of hypnotherapy as well as at many other times during their day. This state can be described as a meditative or contemplative state where all the faculties of the body and mind are greatly enhanced. Hypnotherapy is the process used to facilitate change and healing. Hypnotherapists work together with clients and are trained on how to use the state of hypnosis to support healing and transformation for the client.
Answer: You are aware of what you are doing at all times during hypnosis. You can hear everything and your morals and values are always active in your unconscious mind. Because of this, you will not do anything you wouldn't do in regular waking consciousness. Hypnosis is a voluntary state that the hypnotherapist and the client work together to achieve. The client can come out of the hypnotic process at any time they wish and for any reason. It's also important to know that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis and the hypnotherapist is a guide or facilitator of the process. It is impossible bring a client into a state of hypnosis if they do not wish to be hypnotized. Answer: You're barkin' up the wrong tree. In most cases, I will not do past life regression. I mean, what's the point in focusing on the past, let alone past lives? All the power we have to change is now, not 10 years ago, not 20 years ago, and certainly not in a past life. If regression therapy is used at all, it will be a "non-directed" regression, which means that I will not specify a time to which you will regress. Instead, your unconscious mind will present the experience to you that needs to be resolved and we'll work on that experience...when and if it arises. If you are thinking of coming in specifically to explore past lives as a matter of entertainment, your dollars would be much better spend on a night on the town with some friends.
Answer: Yes, I do have special hypnotic powers ...and so do you! In fact, you've been hypnotizing yourself and other people most of your life. The only problem is you've been doing it all the wrong ways. During our time together, I'll be teaching you how to use your own hypnotic powers more effectively to create empowering possibilities and freedom in your life. Was I born with these skills? Well, I was born with the same things you were born with: a body, a brain and the ability to learn new things.
Answer: Sessions take place at Wellness Within Health and Learning Center (Suite 126, 6104-172 Street.)
Answer: Sessions vary in length. Usually anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes. It's not how long we are in session, but rather the unconscious learning and connections that are made that is important.
Answer: I'm not the cheapest coach in town, and I'm not into squeezing people for every last cent either. Every client is unique, so the costs vary depending on your unique needs. While three or four sessions may be great for one client, another may need several sessions to fully address the challenges they would like to overcome. Discounted packages are available for multiple sessions and long term coaching.
Answer: In certain cases, the cost of sessions will be covered in part or in full by health insurance or a flexible spending account. If this is the case, it's will be your responsibility to to be reimbursed by your insurance company or benefits provider.
Answer: We accept cash, debit, Visa and MasterCard.
Answer: While most of my clients are adults, I can work with children as young as 12 years. Some treatments may not be appropriate for the younger ones so that will be taken into consideration. Parents are always encouraged be to sit in on the sessions so their son or daughter can be more comfortable.
Answer: If you don't live in Edmonton, then distance coaching over the phone or Skype may be an option for you.
Answer: In some cases yes, and in some cases no. Hypnosis is not magic, but it is very powerful when used in the right ways, so chances are pretty favorable that we can work together to overcome your challenge. Of course, we won't know for sure until you book an introductory session so we can meet in person and get down to brass tacks on what's going on for you.
Answer: A great place to look for hypnotherapists is The Hypnotherapist Finder - This directory is pretty much the best place to find a hypnotherapist locally. You can also check out SelfGrowth.com - it's the most complete guide to information about self improvement, personal growth and self help on the internet. It is designed to be an organized directory, with articles and references to thousands of other web sites on the interweb.
Answer: If you have any questions that haven't been answered here, you can certainly send me an email. I've also written a short article on the blog titled "The 21 Power Principles." It's a distillation of everything I've learned over the past 5 years as a hypnotherapist and coach; it's all about helping people have more freedom and choice in their lives, so they can worry less and live more.
